Indonesian Police Tai Ledig in the Land of Papua
By Fawaz Al Batawy September 4th 2017

I've read Filep Karma book three times, as if we're a half of animal. A book that tells the injustices in the land of Papua and the cruel treatment of law enforcement officers to Papuans, as if they were not fully human.

I vividly denied what Filep Karma wrote, and the incident at Oneibo Village, Deiyai Regency recently confirmed my argument.
No, Filep Karma. Absolutely not. The treatment you received is not the treatment for half human but half animal. Again no, Filep. What you receive is purely the treatment of animals.
August 1th 2017, Oneibo villagers of Paniai region, highlands of  West Papua protest PT Putra Dewa Paniai (PDP) campany, ignoring their request to borrow a company-owned vehicle to drive one of the critical citizens drowned in a river.

The victim finally died on arrival at the hospital. Citizens angry, clashing between citizens and employees of the company occurred.

The Indonesian police, as the most authoritative party in maintaining security and peace, came to calm the mood. The trick is very elegant and authoritative: shooting citizens who protest with sharp bullets. Four people were injured and one person of nthem died.

On August 30th  2017, nine Indonesian police officers involved in the shooting in Oneibo Village, Deiyai District, highlands of West Papua underwent an ethical hearing.

The result: five people were declared innocent, four others were found guilty of sanctions transferred and required to apologize.

What kind of call is this?

For a crime that sacrificed a human life, the court's decision was by no means funny.

Protect, Protect, and Serve Society. Ha ha ha. Deiyai Indonesian police officers are so eloquent in practicing this slogan. Weapons and ammunition belonging to the apparatus are of course bought with the people's taxes.

They, the apparatus, returned the tax money in cash, unmistakably: Dar-der-dor, one life was flying.

Three years ago, in one of the food stalls in Timika, West Papua, I talked to a Indonesian policeman. When I asked the authorities to stop the rioting in Timika (a few days before I came there was a riot between tribes in Timika triggered by PT Freeport relief dispute), he replied firmly, "Must be hardened, Mas (brother). Otherwise, the riot continued.

They're just animals! "

Well, Bung Filep Karma, you're wrong again, but your opinion is right and really happening on human life in West Papua. Then I know as well as complete cases.

The penalty decision to apologize for a crime that does not play in Papua does not happen this time. According to John NR Gobay, Second Secretary of the Customary Council of Papua, the case penalty in Deiyai is exactly in Sugapa, an apology for a murder.

The difference, for the case in Sugapa plus a seven-day prison sentence. Seven days! Just as well.

Injustice, it seems to be a daily menu that must be chewed Papuan society. They had to swallow all that. Little protest, other injustices will come. It is always like that.

The abundant natural resources, the unrivaled beauty of the landscape, and the rich cultural diversity have become a curse for Papua. All things that should bring heaven make it hell.

And the hell came from the behavior of the Indonesian officers who said protect and nurture.

Another fact that is increasingly annoying and sickening of the case in Oneibo Village: police officers in charge of 'securing' the clash got funding compensation from the local government. Yeah, right, this is not bullshit.

I quote the statement of Alfret Pakage, Chairman of the Special Committee of DPRD Local Parliament of Deiyai West Papua, "I assure you that the donation from Deiyai Government is not only given to the family of grief, but also given to the Indonesian security apparatus and witnessed by Paniai Police Chief, Mr. Supriyagung."

"The money given to the Indonesian security apparatus is for security and return fare for the Brimob unit from Deiyai." Lapan anam, Mr. Alfret!

Already murdered, severely punished in the form of obligation to apologize, the noble apparatus got funding also. What a miracle that can only happen in Papua.

For all these jokes, there are only two words: tai ledig!
